LIMINAL SPACE: A DEBUT STUDENT ANTHOLOGY

2020

Liminal Space is the University of Alberta's Creative Writing Club's debut project, in which creative writing is submitted from the students of the university, edited by students, and published by and for the students.

I was both a writer, with my story "The Song the Rain Sings" and editor for the short stories:

  • "The Mountain" (short prose)

  • "In the Red Forest" (short prose)

  • "A CUPID's Tale" (short prose)

  • "The Sublime" (flash fiction

Copies can be bought at Audrey's Books, The Glass Bookshop, and the University of Alberta Creative Writing Club website.

ABOUT MY STORY

"The Song the Rain Sings" showcases my ability to write suspenseful short prose.

This short story is under 3000 words, and describes the fear and anxiety that exist in a lot of children when their parents set high expectations for them.

In the writing and editing of this story, the important things which needed to remain in tact throughout the process was the atmosphere and the emotion of the characters.

As my first experience in the publishing process, it's important for me to recognize how this experience has shaped both my approach to writing, but also my approach to editing.
